India Post-Placement/Post-Adoption Requirements
India requires post-placement/post-adoption reports quarterly for the first 2 years after a child arrives home and then semi-annually for the next 3 years. The first 3 post-placement/post-adoption reports must be completed by a licensed social worker, preferably the same social worker who completes the home study. If after the 3rd post-placement/post-adoption report, the orphanage/court may allow all subsequent reports to be self reports by adoptive parents. After completing your adoption in your local state court, the Adoption Decree/Order must be sent to FTIA to be forwarded to CARA, the court and the orphanage. Receipt of the state court Adoption Decree/Order by the time the 3rd post-placement/post-adoption report is submitted increases the likelihood that remaining post-placement/post-adoption reports can be self reports. These post-placement/post-adoption reports address your child(ren)'s bonding with the family, physical health development, social development, educational development and plans, and extended family relationships. Your home study agency should be familiar with these requirements. After completing the adoption in your local court and filing the N-600 to obtain a Certificate of Citizenship for your child, India requires that a copy of the Adoption Decree be sent to CARA. Also, for India, when your child returns to the US on a guardianship, which is always the case unless Adopting Parents are Hindu and complete the adoption in India under Hindu law, there may be additional state post-placement/post-adoption requirements in addition to the reports required by India. Home Study Agency & State Post-Placement/Post-Adoption Requirements
Additionally, some home study agencies or states may have additional post-placement/post-adoption requirements. Please check with your home study agency to determine if there are any additional requirements. If any additional post-placement/post-adoption reports are required by your home study agency or state, we require that you provide us a copy.
Each post-placement/post-adoption report prepared by a home study agency, or report prepared by a parent, should include at least two photographs of your child. All original post-placement/post-adoption reports should be submitted to FTIA for submission to the foreign adoption officials.
