Due to implementation of the Hague Treaty in Guatemala, legal requirements for adoptive parents will be changing. As soon as they are defined by the Guatemalan Central Authority, FTIA will post the information here.
According to the current practice in Guatemala, in order to adopt a healthy child:
Married couples and singles are accepted. If single, the individual must be at least 24 years of age to start the process as required by the CIS/INS. Individuals over the age of 55 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Singles and persons previously divorced are permitted to adopt.
Parents who already have children are permitted to adopt.
You will be required to travel to Guatemala and the length of stay is about 3 to 5 days.
