Other costs will include:

  1. Home study: Generally, the cost will be between $1,000 and $2,000 depending on the agency you choose and your state of residence. It is possible that the costs for some states may exceed these amounts.
  2. CIS fees - $670 I-600A filing fee, plus $80 per adult for biometrics/fingerprinting.
  3. After securing the documents to be included in your Russian dossier, you will send them to your Secretary of State's office to have an apostille affixed to them. The cost of having an apostille affixed to a document varies. Some states charge no fee, and some may charge as much as $25 per document.
  4. Cost of medical evaluation by 8 different medical specialists (done either in Russia or in the US in accordance with region requirements). Approximate cost is $1,000 per person in Russia; cost in the US varies based on the doctors' rates.
  5. Russia currently requires four post-placement reports: 2 the first year after the adoption, 1 post-placement report the second year and 1 the third year. The cost of the post-placement reports may be included in your original fee to your home study agency. If not, post-placement reports generally cost anywhere from $100-$300 each. Additional post-placement reports may be requested.
  6. Costs of independent medical exam for review of referral information.
  7. There may be additional costs after your adoption to register or readopt your child according to your State laws. To learn about your state laws visit: Child Welfare Information Gateway - Summary of Laws Regarding International Adoption.

We want to remind you that these fees are approximate. While Families Thru International Adoption's agency fee will not change during your adoption proceedings, all other costs are subject to change. Based on our experience, we do not expect any substantial change. The travel costs to and from Russia, and inside Russia, vary every trip depending on when and where in Russia you will adopt, the availability of hotels, etc. It is not expected that any of the other fees or expenses will be waived or reduced.
