Post-Placement Requirements for Russia

Each country has its own post-placement requirements. The following are the specific requirements of Russia as of this date.

Russian Embassy/Consulate Registration

Russian adoption officials require that you register your child's adoption with the Russian Embassy or one of its Consulates in the United States upon your return from completing your adoption in Russia. The registration is very simple and we will provide you all the necessary information upon your return from Russia. Please note that when you return with a completed adoption from Russia, your child is a U.S. citizen upon entrance into the United States. This registration is of no consequence to your child but is still a requirement of the Russian Adoption Authorities that must be complied with on every adoption.

Russian Post-Adoption Requirements

Russia requires post-placement supervisory reports completed at 6, 12, 24, and 36 months after returning home by the home study agency that prepared the original home study. On rare occasions, additional post-placement reports may be requested by the Russian adoption authorities. If you have moved, we can identify another home study agency to perform these reports. These post-placement reports address your child(ren)'s bonding with the family, physical health development, social development, educational development and plans, and extended family relationships. Your home study agency should be familiar with these requirements and if not, we will work with your agency at the appropriate time.

Home Study Agency & State Post-Placement Requirements

Additionally, some home study agencies or states may have additional post-placement requirements. Please check with your home study agency to determine if there are any additional requirements. If any additional post-placement reports are required by your home study agency or state, we would request that you provide us a copy.

Each post-placement report, prepared by a home study agency, should include at least ten photographs of your child. All original post-placement reports should be submitted to FTIA for submission to the foreign adoption officials.
